Moroccan Adventure Does Good....

I met a fascinating woman at a dinner party over the summer and although she only resides here for a few months we have been keeping in touch via social media and email.

Her name is Benedicte Clarkson and she is involved with something quite extraordinary.  I will describe it as charity meets adventure meets travel.

Here is how she describes it:

"Having competed 3 times in the biggest women only off road rally in the world, Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, taking place in the Moroccan desert every year for the last 26 years, I have come to love and admire the magnificent sceneries of South East Morocco and the hospitality of its people. I also enjoy driving difficult terrain, crevasses and dunes, while trying to find the shortest way possible between checkpoints. I love the camaraderie, all the more necessary when finding yourself in some difficult situations. I admire the vast sky at night full of stars you don’t see when staying in town."

Benedicte as well sits on the board of the British Moroccan Society (BMS) and does fundraising for them.  She then decided to take these two passions and marry them and created the Rally Marrakech Sahara 2016.

About the charity:

"In 2015 the BMS celebrated its 40th anniversary. Created to develop the economic, touristic, cultural and educational links between the 2 kingdoms of Morocco and the UK, it has constantly increased its support to charitable projects, through the support of its individual members and the creation of fundraising events.
Eight years ago, another committee member Jamila Ait Akka and I organized the ascension of Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, raising $15 000 and enabling the creation of the first Learning Centre in the Berber village of Talataste, 90mn away from Marrakech. This centre has been a resounding success with 1 teacher teaching Arabic writing and reading to 5 year olds as well as women and the other teacher using the centre to teach computer skills and organize activities such as theatre. The Centre is fully funded by the BMS.
There are many more Moroccan charities we help (see website ), in particular in Tangier where the J Paul Getty Junior Charitable trust has been very generous. We have started an ambition project (SHOOF) to educate teachers for the blind and partially sighted."

This is why the BMS is creating this new fund raising opportunity, the Rally Marrakech Sahara, a car rally in the magnificent South East region of Morocco, where mountains and dunes alternate, where camels and Bedouins roam freely, where you will be living an amazing adventure.

The rally is open to everyone with a valid drivers license and must be at least 18 years old.  It takes place from May 1st - May 6th which includes two days of travel. If interested please visit the website for more information

Benedicte is also happy to share places to visit and stay before or after the rally.

Get going all you adventure seekers... I cannot wait to see the pictures!

Happy New Year and wishing you all a fabulous 2016!!
