"A woman can carry a bag, but it is the shoe that carries the woman" Christian Louboutin What can I say about shoes, I love em. They can make a simple jeans and t-shirt outfit into an aha moment.  Each season the one thing I always splurge on is shoes, and no matter what, it is the first department I go to when I am shopping.  Trending for fall,  I see menswear  inspired shoes, ( thank goodness I kept all my old Pradas ) this style looks  cute with cropped pants or a pleated skirt.  Sculptural shoes ( think Rem Koolhaas ) patchwork and fur, as well as tweeds, are also in the mix.  Stylish sneakers continue to be a fashion...

Fall Fashion!

When I was growing up  I could not wait for the September issue of Vogue to come out. When it did I treated it like a bible, pouring over every page,  ear marking all the styles I loved, and not just  for the clothes, but the whole genre of each shoot.  I was mesmerized.   For some reason fall fashion above all others was the one to watch, although summer was always my favorite season , fall seemed like a new start.  Back to school, end of holiday, yada, yada.  This was especially true in New York where I am from, you really had to "winterize" your closet, and get ready for the weather change. In this vein I have been...

Aubergine

I'm crazy for eggplant!  Eggplant is the common name, it is also known as Aubergine, other names are melon gene, garden egg and guinea squash. Eggplants belong to the nightshade family of vegetables which also includes tomatoes, sweet peppers and potatoes.  Eggplants are rich in antioxidants and have been linked to lowering cholesterol in some research. Do not cut eggplant until you are ready to use it as they are fragile and very perishable. One of my favorite things to do is grill eggplant. I love eggplant parmigiana and have made a variation...

Home Show

After spending a week up in Santa Ynez Valley, then on to San Diego for two nights, I decided to fly to Las Vegas ( not a fan ), to go to a home show. It's the first year they included antiques and vintage into the show. When I found this out I knew I needed to check it out. Hunter S. Thompson said "a little bit of Vegas goes a long way", that about sums it up for me.  My goal was to be in and out quickly.  I had missed the first few days of the show but my fabulous friend John  ( globallygorgeous.com )  was texting me while he was there, and giving me the  low down...

Also....

We had 2 more memorable meals in Santa Ynez.  Grappolo, which is always my go to restaurant in the valley. The stuffed calamari is out of this world. It is grilled whole calamari , stuffed with prosciutto and cheese.  The carpaccio and the spinach salad were  delicious as well. Our other meal was at SY Kitchen with some friends and again the food is spot on every time I have eaten there. Arugula and peach salad, the grilled Prawns, all outstanding. The only thing better than the meal this eve was our company.  Good people to laugh with is the best elixir in the world, especially accompanied with good food and wine. . We are back in S.B. but not for long...
